Wedding Photography Misconceptions

Many wedding photographers would tell you that they have been spending much of their time addressing the misconceptions that their clients have regarding wedding photography. Who could blame the excited brides and grooms to be, when their friend‘s friend’s cousin told him, whom in turn told them that that is what they should expect for wedding photos! With so many ‘he says, she says’ from kind friends and relatives, anybody would be confused.

So what are the mistaken beliefs? We bring you the most common 5.

1. Wedding photojournalists do not take formal pictures.

In actual fact, most wedding photographers do! The explanation for this is that they don’t keep doing it in longer sessions, why? It is because the true essence of the wedding photography lies within the documentation which they do best. They would prefer to document real moments to formal pictures as they believe that the former holds more story telling elements.

2. I have to prepare a list of samples on the type of wedding photography I want to the wedding photographers.

In the process of choosing your wedding photographer, you should not provide them the list but rather you have to look at how professional they are. Of course, if you are going to hire a professional wedding photographer then they should have samples of wedding photography right? So instead of giving them what images to capture, you should look through their compiled portfolios and if you can find the shots you are visualizing in your mind then hire him/her and if not, move on to another one. As a professional wedding photographer, one would always know the best moments to capture.

3. It is not possible to take great wedding photos on rainy days

Not true. If you have hired a professional photographer then he/she should has the expertise to give you the best wedding photos, regardless of the weather.

4. Anybody can take good wedding photos with an expensive camera.

Only the best skill brings out the best of any tool. It is always encouraged to hire an experienced wedding photographer as they tend to be able to react quicker to various situations and lightings to get the best shots possible.

5. I will look pretty in all the photos of my wedding day.

As much as your wedding photojournalists would want to capture the best of you, bear in mind that their job is to capture images that tell the story of your wedding day in the most true way. On the other hand, they would also do their best to avoid less flattering shots of anyone as well. However, it must be understood that it is not possible every time unless the wedding photographer decides to forgo the opportunity to capture a fleeting moment. What we would suggest to all the couples is to just be yourselves and enjoy the wedding day. Laugh out loud or shed your tears of joy if you feel like to.

Feeling less confused now? So let’s dispel the misconceptions you had and get the great wedding photos you deserved.
